NEWSROOM POST: DOYLESTOWN, PA

Doylestown, PA – Artist Rebecca Kelly announces the exploration learning opportunity into the art of dying fabrics with barks, leaves, and flowers in a workshop at Bluestem Botanicals farm in Doylestown on September 29, from 1:00-3:30 P.M.

Learn about botanical sources for dyeing fabric from established fiber artist Rebecca Kelly, who will guide participants in dyeing a large, sumptuous cotton shawl with local barks and flowers. She will also teach attendees the bundle dye process to create a wholly unique cotton bandana.

The founder of Bluestem Botanicals, Linda Shanahan, will lead participants on a leisurely walk on her farm, as attendees learn about common plants grown on the farm that can be used in dye practices and dye gardens. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of the natural dye process and their own lovely shawl and bandana.

“This is a unique opportunity to spend an afternoon in nature and create wearable pieces made of plants and dyed with plants!” notes Kelly.

An artist, teacher, storyteller, and New York City transplant, Kelly enjoys foraging for barks, flowers, nuts, and weeds in her home garden in Upper Black Eddy. She displays and sells hand-dyed fabrics and fibers, including scarves, ribbons, and paper at local farmers markets and by special order.

Bluestem Botanicals farm is a certified organic farm founded in 2008, nestled in the heart of Doylestown, and dedicated to connecting people with plants. It hosts a variety of educational events and recently opened a farm store to sell its organic herbs and simple syrups.
