NEWSROOM POST: NEW HOPE, PENNSYLVANIA
New Hope, PA – Today, Rude Haus launches their fall exhibition showcasing the objects of emerging object makers and furniture designers in an online exhibition photographed in Aquetong Spring Park in New Hope, PA. Titled, Idle Haus, the exhibition activates the remnants of an abandoned ruin in the park, and highlights the intersection of human touch and natural elements, reimagining the ruin as a place to inhabit again.
The selected works come from artists who embrace pattern and texture, draw on traditional hand-making techniques inherited from family and culture, and pull inspiration from nature. The connections amongst the items run deep, creating an interesting and layered story of craft and culture intermixed in the history of a decaying building. Nick Benton of Doylestown is among the featured designers via his studio, WoodRepurposed

Rude Haus, a contemporary object gallery and design studio run by eastern PA natives Maura Clark and Camila Chicarelli (they are from Harrisburg and New Hope respectively), was created out of the desire to collect intentionally designed furniture, textiles, lighting and objects and to craft interiors that embody the stories of the people who inhabit them. They are very proud and excited to support these designers, many of whom are their peers.
“We started Rude Haus with a passion for supporting emerging artists and designers–finding a group of makers who craft amazing work,” said Clark. Chicarelli continued: “The relationships we’ve built have been so important to us and it’s been incredible to work with them at this level–understanding their process, and also gaining their trust and allowing us to put their work into a different environment and promote it to the ‘world’.”
In all, ‘Idle Haus’ represents the work of eleven makers housed in the abandoned ruin and the surrounding landscape hosted in part for five days. Each piece was hiked into the park, arranged in situ and photographed as a remnant of the installation. The works, images, maker interviews and full text are now hosted on Rude Haus’s website. Works in the exhibition range in scale from small ceramic pieces to a full sized couch and are for sale via the website until Spring of 2025.
