See Award Winning Art at the 95th Juried Art Show at Phillips’ Mill Until October 27

New Hope, PA – The Phillips’ Mill Juried Art Show, which runs through October 27, opened with a festive and well-attended preview opening with over 400 attendees, as it celebrated its 95th year in the historic grist mill. The most prestigious show in the area, the annual Phillips’ Mill exhibition showcases the vibrant artistic community of Bucks County and the River Towns region which submitted over 650 works of art for jurying this year.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of 22 awards recognizing exceptional work including awards for a watercolor, an interior scene, a still life, an abstract, paintings in the style of the Pennsylvania Impressionists, landscapes, scenic bridges, African American history and culture, and five awards presented to sculptors.

Among the 22 awards presented were the Patrons’ Award for Painting won by Kate Wright of Ambler, Pennsylvania, for her oil painting, Peter and the Wave, the Patrons’ Award for Drawing, Pastel or Printmaking which went to Scott MacNeill of Lambertville for his pencil drawing, ‘55 Chevy in the City (Lambertville, NJ), and the Patrons’ Award for Sculpture, presented to Susanne Pitak Davis, also of Lambertville, for her colorfulpapier maché, My Magic Pumpkin Ride. A special award this year was presented in memory of longtime Phillips’ Mill Community Association member, board member and volunteer Janet Hunt, who supported local artists for decades through her Lambertville gallery work and designed the Juried Art Show at Phillips’ Mill for over 30 years. This award was presented to Robin Crowley of Doylestown for her egg tempera portrait, Jill (b.1927).

Art Committee Chair Dennis Riley, who emceed the evening’s program, said “The opening night reception is always festive with laughs, meet and greets, and the awards presentation. We are excited to have increased the number of awards given out this year – totaling $13,000.” A full listing of award winners can be found on the Mill’s website at phillipsmill.org.

Also speaking at the reception were Janine Dunn Wade of Doylestown, this year’s Honored Artist, and Donna Ruane Rogers of Frenchtown, whose painting “March Afternoon” was selected as the 2024 Signature Image, the artwork used on the show’s marketing and advertising materials. Both women spoke of their pride in being honored by the venerable Phillips’ Mill, the birthplace of Pennsylvania Impressionism, and being part of its history along with William Lathrop, Daniel Garber, Edward Redfield, Fern Coppedge and their fellow artist friends who founded the organization in 1929.

Don’t miss your chance to see this fabulous show exhibiting the works of over 200 area artists, before it closes on Sunday October 27. The exhibition is open daily 1:00 pm to 5 pm, in the historic mill nestled along River Road just north of New Hope. It is the perfect destination for art-loving leaf peepers this season. New this year, tote bags bearing the 95th anniversary show logo and signature image are available for purchase at the Mill for $24. Admission to the show is $6 for adults, $2 for students, free for Phillips’ Mill members and artists who submitted to the show.
