Live Indian Classical Music Inspires On-the-Spot Artwork in Princeton's Outdoor Fusion Event on May 29th - Audience members are encouraged to paint along
Princeton, NJ – Arts, rhythm, and tradition unite under the evening sky as Princeton Makes presents “Rhythm and Hues,” a captivating open-air performance that blends live classical Indian music with spontaneous visual art. The event will take place Thursday, May 29 at 6:00 PM in the courtyard of the Princeton Shopping Center, welcoming art lovers, music fans, and curious onlookers alike.
The evening’s highlight features Vidushi Pavana B. Achar, internationally acclaimed veena artist and founder of Kalaspandana in Manipal, India. She will be accompanied by two rising percussion talents: Vignesh Prakash, a senior at NJIT, and Sarvesh Premkumar, a senior at JP Stevens High School. Their traditional Indian rhythms will inspire live painting by members of the Princeton Makes artist cooperative, creating a dynamic, multisensory experience.
Audience members are invited to watch—or join in the creative flow. Bring your own art materials and express yourself alongside the performers and artists.
“I am a firm believer in music as an art form that transcends geographical barriers, binds communities, and enables broad cultural conversations,” says Pavana B. Achar, whose dedication to preserving and elevating veena music has earned her national recognition, including a felicitation by former Indian President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
Princeton Makes, home to 40 local artists, represents a vibrant cross-section of mediums—painting, sculpture, stained glass, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, and more. The public is invited to explore the cooperative’s art studios and shop for one-of-a-kind pieces before or after the performance.
