Philadelphia Sketch Club Selects 6 Bucks Artists

NEWSROOM POST: BUCKS COUNTY & PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

Bucks County & Philadelphia, PA — Six area artists have had paintings accepted in the Philadelphia Sketch Club’s annual Small Oils Exhibition. Matt DeProspero, proprietor of Lambertville’s MADE Gallery, will show a portrait titled “Firefly.” Yardley resident Lisa Domenic, of will show two landscapes, “Dark History” and “Artisan’s Lure.” Doylestown’s Janine Dunn Wade, who was last year’s Honored Artist at Phillips’ Mill, will exhibit two interiors, “Mad Hatter Daffodils” and “Teapot and Jazz.” Jas Sziegel of Doylestown will present an urban scene, “Yo! Taxi,” and a rural landscape, ”Sweetbriar Creek.” Gene Underwood, from Buckingham, will exhibit the still life “Whittled and Kneaded.”  Langhorne’s Michael Weinert will show a landscape, “Core Creek Park, Spring, Bucks County.” Kate McCammon, a noted Philadelphia-based mixed media artist, was the juror.

The Philadelphia Sketch Club on tiny, picturesque Camac Street, is America’s oldest art club and has been operating continuously since 1860. Thomas Eakins taught there, and prominent artists such as N. C. Wyeth have served as president. The selected painters stand in a tradition of Bucks County artists included in Philadelphia Sketch Club shows.  Walter Baum, Daniel Garber, Edward Redfield, and more recently, Ranulph Bye and Robert Beck, have all exhibited there.

The Small Oils Exhibition will run from September 7 until September 28. Admission is free when the gallery is open, on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 1pm until  5pm, and by appointment. There will be a reception on Sunday, September 14, from 1 pm until 3 pm. The Sketch Club is located at 235 South Camac Street, Philadelphia.
