In her latest Arts News Now feature, she interviews emerging singer and songwriter from Lambertville, New Jersey, Vivienne Artur. Together, the two talk about roots, music, and Vivienne’s newly released single.
A rising voice from the NJ/PA scene, Vivienne Artur has carved out her own corner of the internet. Best known for songs like “Knife” and her newest single “Dime a Dozen,” she’s building a strong local following and a steady online fan base, with nearly 40k followers across platforms and 15k monthly listeners. Artur is building her career in music rooted with honesty and style.
Roots & Identity
For Vivienne, growing up in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area meant being surrounded by creativity in full color. “I was brought up in a community filled with drag queens, creatives and artists,” she recalls. The environment gave her more than just inspiration, but permission!! “I always felt there was space for me to pursue my music.” She attributes her confidence and artistry to the communities encouragement, carrying with her that feeling of belonging and gratitude. “It’s a tight knit area that has always shown me support,” Vivienne reflects. And as her voice continues to reach further out into the world, it’s clear that her roots remain her anchor.

Music & Evolution:
What started as a college freshman’s first project has since bloomed into a body of work that feels ever-evolving, personal, but also relatable. “Describing my music briefly is hard because I feel like it has evolved so much since the first project I released back during my freshman year of college,” she admits.
At the core of that, her evolution is her vulnerability, and a willingness to let her sensitivity become a strength in her sound, “I’m a very emotional and highly sensitive person,” she says.
Her mission, in her own words: “I want people to be able to listen to my music and to resonate with my messages and storytelling, but I also want them to be able to lose themselves for a few minutes.”
These tracks are not just personal confessions but shared experiences, ones that turn reflective moments into connections between the artist and listener.
Style
Vivienne has fun visuals that fill her instagram feed.
Bold and playful are just two of many words that can be used to describe her unique style. Patterns, textures, and color aren’t just accessories in her world, but part of her storytelling..
That flair was ingrained from her early days. “I grew up in a house with a cheetah print staircase,” she laughs, a detail that feels almost fated. Her parents, who once owned a boutique in the early 2000s, introduced her mind to young designers like Betsey Johnson and Tarina Tarantino, you know, names synonymous with extravagance. “I’ve always been surrounded by maximalism,” she shares.

Vivienne brings that same spirit into her style today. “I like being bold, taking risks with my style,” she explains. But she noted that the day-to-day Vivienne is simpler, and intentionally so. She suggests that the quiet foundation is what allows her to go all out when the time calls. Onstage, she taps into a bit of an experimental alter ego, one who dresses up, and reflects the emotions of her music.
Her look, like her songs, becomes another channel of self-expression, allowing her to break away from her comfort zone without losing touch.
Influences
Behind Vivienne’s sound and style is a playlist of icons who embody this feeling of reinvention and joy. “Three of my favorite artists that never fail to put me in a good headspace are Lady Gaga, ABBA, and Miley Cyrus.”
There is clearly a throughline here between Gaga’s bold theatrics, ABBAs nostalgia, and Miley’s grit (yet also playful). All together they form the inspiration behind music rooted in self expression.
Her inspirations don’t overshadow her voice, but light it up. Her inspirations don’t bury her voice, they illuminate it.
The New Single, Dime A Dozen
Vivienne’s latest single marks a turning point. It’s “chic and upbeat,” as she puts it. Her purpose with this piece was to “serve as a reminder” (especially to her younger fans) “that there is no reason to settle for someone who dulls your shine.”
It’s not just a catchy pop track, but a mantra! A hand on the shoulder! “ I hope people feel like they can detach and alleviate the weight they are carrying from a relationship that might not have worked out. It’s a pep talk to carry on and move forward,” she elaborates.

Life Outside the Sound
Vivivenne lives for her art, but she’s grounded by the simple rituals that keep her connected to herself and community. “I love spending time with my friends and doing self care sleepovers and stuff,” she says, a reminder that sisterhood and soft moments are just as significant as the spotlight.
Living in an area with the Delaware River as its centerpiece, the town gives her daily inspiration. “I’m so lucky to be in a walkable town,” she cherishes the closeness. From volunteering at the local animal shelter, to cozy afternoons journaling at her favorite coffee shop, “shout-out Stockton Market!” she adds. Vivienne finds balance in the small joys that keep her present.
