Five forms of love, painted by an artist who also studies the chemistry behind them
Cap d’Antibes, France —Cypriot artist Mia Shaly opens her solo exhibition SPACE OF LOVE at The 1932 Hotel & Spa Cap d’Antibes – MGallery on Thursday 10 September, with a reception from 6pm. The exhibition runs until 4 November.
Her paintings are about emotions — the ones people live through in ordinary situations: a hug, a kiss,
an argument, a morning when everything feels right. Painting those states brought her to five forms of
love: love for oneself, love between two people, a parent’s love for a child, love for friends and
community, and love for the living world.

Alongside painting, Shaly reads neurobiology. She began painting these states before she could name
what happens in the body, and now tells visitors what serotonin and dopamine have to do with a good
hug.
On the opening night the room darkens and ultraviolet lights come on: some of the paintings show a
second image. The opening week also coincides with the Cannes Yachting Festival, 8–13 September,
where three of her paintings will be shown on board a Bali 62 catamaran.

Mia Shaly is a Cypriot artist and the founder of Shalysm, her own visual language. She has lived and worked in Cyprus since 2011 and has exhibited in Cyprus, Switzerland, France and Italy.
