Find out how you can help at an upcoming “Volunteer 101” meeting at the Mill on Wednesday, January 8, 2025
New Hope, PA – Many volunteers at Phillips’ Mill Community Association were introduced to the Mill through its historic Juried Art Show in the fall. Others came by way of the annual photography exhibit, still others through the Mill’s drama productions. As a volunteer run organization, new volunteers are always needed and welcomed to the team. Learn where you can help at an upcoming “Volunteer 101” meeting at the Mill on Wednesday, January 8, at 11 am. (In case of snow, check www.phillipsmill.org for a “Zoom Alert”.)
The Art Committee at Phillips’ Mill, the largest committee, is a group of interesting people who collaborate to stage the annual juried show, bringing their passions, skills, creativity, and good humor to organize the many aspects of staging an art exhibition. The Juried Art Show has been happening since 1929, making this year the 96th and one of the longest-running art exhibitions in America. What propels it forward is the dedication of many longtime committee members joined by a constant influx of energy from new volunteers. Many lifelong friendships have been made over the years, and people new to the area have found an instant home and new community of friends through their volunteer work on the Art Committee.
At the January 8th event, several committee members will provide an overview of how this show is organized and talk briefly about the many projects and jobs that committee members handle to produce the show. You don’t need to be an artist. You just need to want to help by doing things like checking in submitted artworks, hosting at the gallery, setting up and taking down the reception, mailing invitations, etc. Special skills always welcomed include data management and tech talent! There are jobs big and small. It is easy to find an assignment that fits your interests, schedule, and availability.
The Youth Art Exhibition, featuring the work of high school students from 24 area schools, is in full swing preparing for a January opening and would love to welcome new volunteers immediately. The 2nd Annual Mill Members Art Show & Sale is gearing up for its show in March. The Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition will begin organizing soon for its April show. Drama has several productions in the planning stages, with the readings of the Play with Words Student Playwriting Challenge winners set for March, followed by the annual spring musical comedy cabaret. A brief review about all these programs will be presented.
It takes a big team of volunteers to put on the many, varied programs at Phillips’ Mill. Come find out how you can join the team and become one of them! The history of Phillips’ Mill is rich as the “Birthplace of Pennsylvania Impressionism.” Being a part of any committee at the Mill means being a part of that extraordinary history.
