NEWSROOM POST
:  SOLEBURY, PENNSYLVANIA

Solebury, PA  – Concordiaʼs second concert of the season will be on February 4th, 2024 at 3PM. Entitled “The WolfganG,” it features music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as well as Igor Stravinsky and Bohuslav Martinů. Mozart was a great “influencer,” pre-social media, touching nearly every composer who followed him and especially the two others featured on the program.

The program will open with Stravinskyʼs Elegy for solo viola. Stravinsky referred to himself as “Mozartʼs continuer” in the context of opera. Since Mozart himself loved and played the viola, it seems fitting to shine a light on the instrument that he often featured so prominently with a performance of this solo piece by Stravinsky. This will be followed by the Madrigals by Bohuslav Martinů which were inspired by Mozartʼs Symphonia Concertante for violin, viola, and orchestra. In addition to also being scored for violin and viola, these pieces share a similar structure with the Mozart work, but are expressed with the unique voice of Martinů. The capstone of this concert will be the Divertimento in E-flat Major, K. 563 by Mozart, a serene and happy work, arguably the one of the most inventive compositions in the limited string trio literature.
