Fiber Arts Series to launch this Spring at Flemington DIY with Hands-On Workshops

Flemington, New Jersey – Local community arts space Flemington DIY has announced an exciting new Fiber Series to explore various methods of embellishing fibers. The series of workshops will include natural dyeing, mending, block printing and embroidery, and spanning from March thru June.

They will explore eco-friendly approaches to embellishment and creative uses of fabric, and will culminate in a Community Quilt Project and a Quilt Show in early Fall 2025.

 
 

The Series:

Natural Dyeing w/ Laura Hricko

Sunday, March 23: 10 am – 1pm

Learn how to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind patterns on textiles using a variety of flowers, botanical dyes, kitchen scraps, and spices. This workshop will lead participants through one of the most water-wise and unique natural dye processes, known as “bundle dyeing.” By the end of this workshop, you’ll create either a bundle-dyed cotton tote bag and a half-yard of cotton or two half-yards of cotton—perfect for quilting or sewing projects. Discover the joy of capturing color from plants and humble kitchen waste to create works of art on fabric. $95 per person – Limit to 15 people.

 
 

Mending w/Art Circle
Saturday, April 5, 3-5pm

Join us for this hands-on workshop, exploring mending fabric and the implications this slow and thoughtful process can have on our approach to living. You bring items to mend. We will supply mending tools and share basic stitches and techniques to mend various items. $5-$15 sliding scale per person. 

Embroidery w/Jenny Santamaria
Sunday, May 11, 10am-1pm

Learn the art of embroidery in this step-by-step workshop. Participants will learn all the basics; from how to transfer a design to a diversity of stitches, as well as how to split the thread and thread a needle with ease. This workshop is both a great way to start your journey into the world of embroidery in addition to reviewing some basics of the craft form. $35 per person plus $10 material fee to be paid to instructor on day of workshop.

Block Printing w/ Print Club
Sunday, June 1, 10am – 12:30 pm


Printing techniques can bring unique forms to your fabrics. Learn basic block printing and how to transfer your images onto fabric for lasting, distinctive designs. You will create, carve and print your design. All supplies included. You will leave with two 10.5in x 10.5in cotton squares. $35 per person – Limited to 15 participants.

 
 

All experience levels welcome and while these workshops are geared towards adults, youths aged 14+ are welcome to participate.
