In December of 2019, producer Charlie Hudson introduced the Firebird Festival to director Colleen Brady during the 16th annual burn in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. With a shoestring budget and a determination that only comes with youth, the two embarked on this journey with the simple intention of capturing a year in the making of this festival. But there was no way to predict the obstacles ahead – like a global pandemic that prolonged their stay in the keystone state! On both sides of the veil, the ramifications were felt, but time and time again, the Firebird community proved how togetherness can drive out the shadows that sometimes haunt our day-to-day lives.
And now, 4 years later, they are finally ready to share the Firebird’s story with the world.
Firebird: Built to Burn follows a group of volunteers in resurgent Phoenixville, PA, as they orchestrate their town’s most treasured collective art event: the building and burning of a giant wooden phoenix. Starting in 2004, the aptly named Firebird Festival annually spreads a message of rebuilding community through collective art.

About the ACME Screening Room
ACME Screening Room is a nonprofit weekend theater that presents classic, independent, and documentary films to educate and inspire. Housed in a former supermarket in Lambertville, NJ, ACME is a space where audiences come together to discuss contemporary ideas presented through the world of film.
