ACP invites the public to create messages of peace and justice through window signs inspired by the words and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a free MLK Day community art workshop.
Princeton, NJ — In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Arts Council of Princeton (ACP) invites the community to gather for a free, hands-on art workshop celebrating the life, legacy, and enduring message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 19, from 1-3pm.
This welcoming community event offers participants the opportunity to design a sign for their window that shares messages of peace, justice, and hope with neighbors and passersby. ACP will provide all materials, along with inspiration drawn from iconic MLK Jr. quotes. Participants may begin with a provided template featuring an image and quote, or create an original design from scratch using drawing, collage, and color. An additional button-making project will allow attendees to turn hand drawn designs into wearable 2″ buttons.
The workshop will be facilitated by ACP Board Members Aaron Fisher and Gregory Smith and is open to all ages and skill levels. Exhibiting artist Terrance Cummings, whose work explores art as a catalyst for social change, will be on site with copies of his book available for purchase and signing.
While the program is free, advance RSVP is encouraged to help organizers plan.
As part of the event, attendees are invited to contribute to an MLK Day Food Drive by bringing pantry-stable goods. Donations will be made available through the Free Pantry located outside ACP’s building, supporting neighbors in need.
This program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Princeton University Office of Community and Regional Affairs.
