Flemington, NJ – Flemington DIY presents Flora Algera, Charybdis, and Tyler Elden, Americana, Dark Folk, and Indie/Alternative Songwriters

Flora Algera once decided to pick up a guitar in a rehabilitation facility, and it saved her life. In order to process some emotionally distressing experiences from her youth, as well as the rise in mental illness that she observed within her generation, Algera began to travel around America and write poetry. As a former opera singer, Algera’s sonic preferences include an alternative blending of genres out of appreciation for various styles (with an emphasis on Americana in its many forms). An avid music lover and performer from a young age, once Algera felt she had a story to tell, she began to turn her poems into songs.

Charybdis (a.k.a. Jason Caridi) is a PA/NJ-based neofolk artist. In his work, he merges the sensibilities of European neofolk and doom metal with crooners such as Cohen and Cave. His textured, romantic, desperate compositions explore Italian film and history, the isolation of travel across countries and time, and the heartbreak of the will to life. They stand on the dilapidated bridge between the present and the past, wondering which way to take stride — or simply to jump off.

Tyler Elden’s songwriting incorporates a wide variety of influences ranging from progressive rock to folk. Performing as both a solo artist and with a high energy music collective, he has garnered comparisons to early 2000s post hardcore acts from Philadelphia’s CherryVeeZine, and praise for his more intimate work from New Jersey’s The Mic Blog. After years of multiple independent releases and live performances across the east coast and performances at local Philadelphia venues such as: Underground Arts, The Fire, The Khyber, The Grape Room, and Ortlieb’s, Tyler embarked on his first cross country solo tour in 2022. Upon returning home and building his new studio The Homestead, Tyler is prepped for a prolific year of both solo releases and an Alternative Rock EP from his collaborative project. Tyler’s latest single is entitled “Lighthouse”. Exploring themes of alienation and reflection on one’s place in the world, “Lighthouse” will appeal to indie rockers and alternative music fans alike.
