Beatricia Sagar’s impact on New Hope’s cultural landscape is as vibrant as her paintings. In 1971, she acquired 105 Main Street—now home to Havana Bar and Restaurant—where she opened Sweet Emily’s, the first vegetarian restaurant in town. She later founded Spirit of the Earth, an award-winning art and craft gallery, and The Collaborative, a distinctive American craft shop. Through these ventures, Beatricia fostered deep connections with the local arts community while continuing to produce and exhibit her own groundbreaking work.

Beatricia is not only a celebrated visual artist but also a renowned poet. She won a competition for the New Hope Poets and Writers Group in 2016, further solidifying her influence in the local arts community. In honor of her literary contributions, Beatricia will be reading her poetry on April 19 as part of a four-Saturday series of events coinciding with the exhibition, offering audiences an intimate experience with her written and visual artistry.

Beyond New Hope, Beatricia’s legacy extends across the art world, with her pieces held in over 30 corporate collections. The 2025 Legacy Exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience the depth and impact of an artist whose contributions have shaped both local and global creative landscapes.

“Beatricia Sagar’s life and work exemplify the artistic spirit that has long defined New Hope,” says Christine Ramirez, Executive Director of New Hope Arts. “Through this exhibition, we honor her remarkable journey, from her early days shaping the local arts scene to her lasting international impact. We are thrilled to share her vision with the community and celebrate the enduring power of her art.”
