NEWSROOM POST: DOYLESTOWN PENNSYLVANIA

Doylestown, PA – Daniel Handler, author of And Then? And Then? What Else? will be Doylestown on Friday, May 24, 6 pm, days after his book launch.  Officially on tour, Handler’s memoir reveals how he found himself becoming Lemony Snicket. He’s often been asked over the years where that dark imagination springs from. Handler’s book is an honest look at mental health, finding one’s way in the world as a reader and writer, and channeling inspiration through a variety of sources and is noted to be a bold, candid, vulnerable, and entertaining memoir of a most unusual literary life May 24th is also the 25th anniversary of A Series of Unfortunate Events.

You never love a book the way you love a book when you are ten.

Declaring his love of strange literature, Handler reflects on the life experiences—some of them deeply personal and revealed for the first time—and the cultural influences that shaped his writing. Writing as Lemony Snicket, Daniel Handler has led several generations of young readers into that special and curious space of being hopelessly lost, and joyfully finding yourself, in the essential strangeness of literature. The wondrous and perilous journey of the Baudelaire orphans sprung from the author’s own path, from his childhood discovery of Baudelaire’s poetry through the countless peculiarities of his pursuit of a literary life—abject failure and startling success, breakthrough and breakdown, concordance and controversy—lit along the way by the books and culture he loved best.
