NEWSROOM POST: INTERNATIONAL-WARSAW, POLAND

An urgent new documentary by Andrzej Miękus explores the courageous efforts to protect Ukraine’s cultural heritage during wartime.

Warsaw, Poland — Following its international premiere on October 10, 2025, at the Warsaw Film Festival, the powerful feature-length documentary War on Art, directed by Andrzej Miękus, continues to captivate audiences across Europe through a series of international screenings this fall.

War on Art tells the extraordinary true story of the mission to rescue and safeguard priceless artworks from more than 150 Ukrainian museums during Russia’s full-scale invasion. Combining investigative storytelling with striking visual style, the film captures the bravery, creativity, and unity of those who refused to let culture become a casualty of war.

War on Art takes viewers into the heart of this unprecedented rescue mission,” says director Andrzej Miękus. “It’s a psychological and investigative thriller — a story about saving art in wartime, where the battle to protect culture becomes the battle to protect a nation.”

It also chronicles the dramatic evacuation of national treasures from institutions such as the Khanenko Museum and the National Art Museum of Ukraine, as well as the international exhibition Eye of the Storm—now recognized as the largest showcase of Ukrainian modernism in Europe.
