Under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Philadelphia Orchestra continues its exploration of Gustav Mahler’s symphonic masterpieces throughout the 2026–2027 season.

Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, composed between 1901 and 1902, is among the composer’s most celebrated orchestral works. Known for its emotional intensity, dramatic contrasts, and expressive Adagietto movement, the symphony reflects a transformative period in Mahler’s personal and artistic life, including his relationship with Alma Schindler, whom he would later marry.

The Orchestra presented Symphony No. 5 at Marian Anderson Hall in Philadelphia on October 1–3, 2026. The Philadelphia programs also featured Julia Wolfe’s Liberty Bell, an Orchestra co-commission, and Carl Maria von Weber’s Im Sommerwind, which received its world premiere from the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1962.
