New York, NY – The Walter Wickiser Gallery proudly presents its annual exhibition Gallery Artists Part XXII 2025, now on view through September 30th both in-person and virtually. This much-anticipated group exhibition features a compelling selection of works from the gallery’s esteemed roster, celebrating more than three decades of curatorial vision and artistic excellence.

Founded in 1992, the Walter Wickiser Gallery has been a cornerstone of New York’s contemporary art scene. This year marks the gallery’s 33rd anniversary—a milestone that reflects its continued dedication to showcasing boundary-pushing work that bridges cultural and aesthetic traditions.

“Since 2000, my focus has become more international and post-war painting. This year marks the thirty-third year since the gallery’s founding. I hope you will enjoy this selection of my artists.

Art has always been a part of my life. As the son of artist parents, I felt the aesthetics of music and painting were constants and always a source of beauty, solace, and inspiration. My father was the American artist Ralph Wickiser, whose contemporaries included Woodstock and Pratt Institute artists such as Yasuo Kuniyoshi, Franz Kline, Jacob Lawrence, and Barnet Newman.

With the artistic vision of my father and his associates, I developed a strong sense of painting—especially abstraction. In the late 1980s, this artistic constant became my vocational pursuit. I formally became an art dealer. The early days were illuminating. For one, I worked with Chinese dealers from mainland China for the first time and soon became fascinated with Asian art.

When I started my own gallery in 1992, I found my own direction—intermingling American and Asian painters to create a dialectic of art between cultures. This year’s exhibition continues that vision.” Walter Wickiser, New York, Summer 2025

Among the featured artists is Janet Filomeno, whose abstract works dive deep into metaphoric and emotional terrains:

“Simply put, my paintings are intuitively driven expressionistic responses to the daily ongoing occurrences in life. The influences are many—the history of art, the internet, mass media, artist studio visits, nature (water in particular)… endless references inform my practice.

As an artist, my interests lie in creating abstract images that have metaphorical references. I challenge myself to paint the unknown, what is visibly unseen, and trust that instinct and my own repository of collected personal histories will bring me to new uncharted terrain with which I can project my own inner drama in response to the world around me.” Janet Filomeno, Artist Statement
