NEWRSOOM POST: DOYLESTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA
Friday June 19 at 7:30 PM, Saturday June 20 at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sunday June 21 at 2:00 PM, in Delaware Valley University’s Life Sciences Theater
Doylestown, PA — The Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Society presents Gilbert & Sullivan’s classic musical comedy “H.M.S. Pinafore” on Friday June 19 at 7:30 PM, Saturday June 20 at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sunday June 21 at 2:00 PM, in Delaware Valley University’s Life Sciences Theater, 700 East Butler Avenue, Doylestown.
The theater group, now in its 17th year, will perform this comic satire of British manners and class, where a stalwart British sailor of the lower classes falls in love with the Captain’s daughter. The Captain is eager for his daughter to marry the First Lord of the Admiralty, who rose to his exalted rank by simply being agreeable. The show’s colorful ensemble sings delightful patter songs, ballads and choral pieces such as ‘When I Was a Lad’, ‘I’m Called Little Buttercup’ and ‘Never Mind the Why and Wherefore’ accompanied by the 35-piece Bucks County Gilbert & Sullivan Orchestra, making it a cheery romp suitable for the whole family. Seating is first-come, first-serve, so early arrival is recommended. To park at the DVU Life Sciences building, enter the campus from New Britain Road, turn onto Admissions Drive, then right into Parking Lot C.
Directing “H.M.S. Pinafore” is Julie May of West Chester, an award-winning veteran of International Gilbert & Sullivan Festivals in England; and the Music Director and Orchestra Conductor is Bob Binkley of New Britain, whose credits include directing, conducting, set designing and singing in dozens of G&S shows. Assistant Music Director is Lee F. Milhous of New Britain, and Bill Buckman and Ed Connolly of Doylestown are Producers. Technical Director is Dave Cassel, Jesse Roy is Stage Manager, Tina Spiegel and Diane Stephens are Costumers and Joy Woffindin is Choreographer. The sets are designed and painted by Henry Heymann of Doylestown, whose background includes decades of professional theater productions in Santa Fe, New York City and Pittsburgh.
